I have to say that Bethke has slowly grown on me, and I’m making my way through her various shorts. Here, though Ben has never met his best friend Josie in person, he doesn’t hesitate to drop everything to lend support when she has a terrible accident. Their friendship may be solely internet based but that has never been an issue. Ben is just happy to lend support to Josie’s brother Zach, who’s absolutely devastated about his sister.Thankfully, things work out all right, and Ben and Zach [...]

Dear story, where are you? You should be on my bookshelf, but you are missing :(Just finished - it was a nice, short read in between. Perhaps a bit too smooth? And too superficial, shallow. Stuff was mentioned only to then fizzle out.

This was light and fluffy and everything I was waiting for from this author. Big dopey smile on my face by the end. :D

Some relationships, or so it seems, are doomed from the start. Ben, an attorney from California, and Zack, a biology teacher in New York, have to face not only a sixteen-year age difference, but the fact that they live at opposite ends of the country. Despite the short time they spend together when Ben visits Zack’s sister (his best friend), the attraction is strong and both men need to think about the implications of wanting to continue what they have started. This is a very moving story abou [...]

I loved this story. In this day when so much communication is through social media, to see that Ben and Josie had become true friends, not just mere faceless people online, was really neat. But the attraction Ben feels to her brother is HOT! Loved it!

Ben’s friend (who lives across the country) gets injured so he flies out to help. While there he meets her brother and supports him while she heals. They fall for each other. But – they just met, they live on opposite coasts and Ben doesn’t know what to do next.**This is a really full short story. It’s very sweet and sexy and I really enjoyed it. The characters are very well developed and the storyline plausible yet romantic.4.5 of 5 stars

I thought that this was sweet, had a good pace and believability to it, and I enjoyed this. It was sweet, if not just a bit *too* easy, but for a short story sometimes you don't want the drama and big misunderstandings or anything. I liked this!

2.5 starsI liked that unique friendship Ben had with Josie. The beginning was pretty good; but after Josie woke up then the romance started between Ben and Zack, everything became less interesting. I was bored and skimmed through the end *shrugs*.

Lovely short story. Low angst and good story line. Ben is a great guy and Zack is just smitten from the beginning. It was great to see Zack go from crumbling to so self confident. The ending was terrific.Adult read

4.5 Heart Review by CarissaGreeting from Pride! As I am writing this I’m sitting under a tree at my city’s Pride festival, eating a smuggled in tuna sandwich (I am NOT paying $4 for a hotdog, thank you very much), and trying to recoup some energy from having walked hither and yon around the area. The sun is shining (probably too much), the music is going, and–as the guy behind me has so eloquently put it–‘this place is full of f*ckin swinging dicks!’ Which to be fair, it was. But tha [...]

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE4.25 StarsWhen Ben Winter’s email pings in the middle of the night to inform him a close friend, someone he has only ever talked to online, has had an accident he can’t settle. In the end the worry becomes too much and he phones Josie’s brother to see what is happening. The news isn’t good; Josie fell down some steps, banged her head and hasn’t woken up.Ben finds himself on the next plane out. It’s a weird situation. Ben and Josie met online a couple o [...]

As I go along reading these short stories, well, when they turn out to not be great, I try to remind myself that they’re short and that’s probably the reason. And then I come across stories like Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love. If I could, this story would get 10 stars. It had everything! Wonderful main characters, quirky secondary character, the urgency of only having a short time together, a May/December romance, and true love. All in a nice, tight little package. And what’s better than that [...]

Ben and Zack. Ben responds to a need he hears in Zack's voice when he called to report on his sister's accident. When they meet the attraction takes them both by storm. It was great to see them overcome the gap of years and miles to make things work.

I found this story charming and sweet. I could very much feel the difference in age between the characters, beyond just being told it was there, which was a joy to see. Lovely.
