This review can also be found at Carole's Random Life.I really enjoyed reading this book. The idea behind the story was really pretty scary largely because of how realistic everything felt. All of the characters that I have grown to love over the past few years played a part in this complex and exciting story. There was really a lot of action in the story and I had a hard time putting the book down. The story was very relevant to today's world. The book starts out with several seemingly unrelated [...]

This book in the Ryder Creed series can be read as a stand alone story and still be an enjoyable read. There is a conspiracy by those who should be protecting us. Ryder Creed, ex-Marine war veteran and scent dog trainer gives shelter dogs a new lease on life. Local authorities request the use of one of his dogs for the search and rescue of a missing woman. While in search of the missing woman he uncovers a case that could have dire consequences for him and his dogs. FBI profiler Maggie O’Dell [...]

1,5 starsThe 3rd book in Alex Kava's Ryder Creed Series ( a spin-off from her Maggie O'Dell Series). The first two books were really good , /book/show/2/book/show/2 but I just did not get into this one.The plot felt old and tiredadly virus, terrorists on home ground new there!! Then the charactersokay, I love dogs and Grace is still my favourite Jack Russellbut TMI on dog training and nothing on the characters. I was hoping for something to happen between Maggie & Ryder.but no.This missed th [...]

Clearly, the best parts of this are the dogs and not the birds. The bird portion of this story clogs and brings down the whole novel. What a shame and a waste. The dogs and their human interactions are far superior than the meddlesome mix in between. 3 of 10 stars

Ryder Creed and Maggie O'Dell are back! If you are a follower of this series (or this author) you're probably jumping up and down with glee. If this is your first look at this series, please go back and read them in order. I guarantee you won't be sorry.Ryder Creed, his K-9 search and rescue dogs , and Maggie find themselves, once again, battling evil forces. This time, though, the evil may destroy everything they hold dear.Across the country several young people have committed suicide or at le [...]

This is the third installment with Ryder Creed and his k-9 unit. There is an outbreak of bird flu and people are dying at the hands of those who are deliberately infecting others. FBI profiler Maggie O'Dell and Creed not only must figure out who is behind this horrific crime, but stop this mass murdering before any more lives are lost.

Scary good! Loved it! Fast paced, full of suspence, and gut clenching! Fantastic way to bring to life the very real, fear of viral pandemics and what would happen if we were unfortunate to encounter one. I learned how dogs can, literally, save many, many lives. It's not fiction anymore. It's a reality. Ties up some loose ends from book 2 in this series very well. But what about the unanswered questions? I can't wait to read about Ryder Creed and his dog's future endeavors! I hope there will be a [...]

This is the first book by Alex Kava that I have read, and I wasn't exactly blown away. It is a quick and mostly entertaining read, but several times throughout the book, Kava turns professor and bores the reader (at least me) with unnecessary scientific details about e.g. the virus that is about to decimate the population. Perhaps Kava finds it crucial to the plot, but she doesn't manage to make it interesting to read, and that line is an important and difficult one to walk. The plot is a little [...]

Excellent third book in the Ryder Creed series from Alex Kava. Readers of her previous books won't want to miss Creed and Maggie O'Dell as they hunt down a horrific virus and the evil scientist who threatens Americans from coast to coast.Review note: I actually (gulp) bought this e-book at regular price from because I was so intrigued by the first two books in this series. Not the worst way to spend moneyGet your hands on it when you can!

full disclosure: I won this book in a giveaway. That said, this is one of my favorite books I've read this year. i honestly don't know how many books I've rated a 5 this year, not many.I've enjoyed Alex Kava's Maggie O'Dell and Ryder Creed series, but to join them together? Genius!Great suspense, dogs, veterans, potential biological weapons created by crazy people with a diabolical plan for testing and spreading? Excellent book!

Alex Kava's Reckless Creed (Putnam's Sons 2016) is the third in the series about former detective Ryder Creed, now the owner of K9 CrimeScents, a small company of working dogs in Florida that tracks scents for law enforcement. In this story, he is hired to find a runaway teen. Finding her is the beginning of the problems when he also stumbles across two dead birds that have no evident reason for dying. When it turns out they may have been killed by an illegally-formulated avian flu, it ties in w [...]

Awesome mystery/suspense, a book with a chillingly plausible premise…This is the third book in the Ryder Creed series that can be read as a stand-alone.There have been deaths in different parts of the country and the victims have more than the connection of the state of their health at the time of their demise, birds are also falling from the skies. It will take an FBI profiler and a trainer of scent dogs to uncover the ghastly correlation between these events. There is a deadly conspiracy fro [...]

4.5 stars. Sick people are dying. They are people who have agreed to experiments but don't realize what is happening to them will cause death. The virus he is exposed to caused a young veteran to fall from a nineteenth story hotel room to his death. Ryder Creed and his search-and-rescue dog Grace find a young woman who is found in a river with pockets full of stones. Tests later show that she was actually strangled in an attempt to mimic suicide. And another young woman is sick in New York City. [...]

I love this series. I love how Ryder Creed who is a dog trainer really loves and takes good care of his dogs. He trains them to smell and find all kinds of things, even diseases. I was so disappointed when I got the e-mail saying that I had not been approved for this book And then . . . yesterday, out of the blue, I was approved. I was so excited and even more excited that I had just finished a book and could start right in on this one. YAY!This one was about the missing scientist Shaw and the f [...]

Thanks to FirstToRead for the advanced reader's copy! This is the first book I've read in the series and I didn't have any issues reading it as a standalone book, but I do plan to go back and read the previous books in the series. There were several references to prior events but I didn't feel like that took anything away from this story. The most interesting thing to me about this book is that it could be 100% true. From the beginning of the book it follows several different characters in variou [...]

Another amazing novel by Alex Kava. Her ability to blend characters with a love or dogs with police type procedural, hot topics and research is amazing. Never once did the story line lose my interest. In fact it was so well written that I actually could envision similar events happening in the here and now of real life. Every bit as adrenaline charged as the first book in this series,Breaking Creed, with a plot so believable it's downright scary. Plus, this features a fascinating glimpse into the world of medical alert and disease detection dogs. Ryder Creed and FBI agent Maggie O'Dell share the spotlight with Jason, an Afghanistan veteran and trainee K9 handler, whom I hope to read more about in future books.I received this book for free through Giveaways.

A very quick read - took me less than a day. Moved the characters of Ryder Creed, Maggie O'Dell and Jason on nicely but felt a little rushed towards the end. Lots of references to previous books in the series so don't read this one out of order!
