Mahalia Watkins owns a soul food restaurant, Mahalia's Sweet Tea. Her mother bakes the luscious desserts and her cousin, Wavonne; waitresses, eavesdrops, and is Halia's general sidekick in most situations. When Halia's high school reunion rolls around she's asked to cater the event by some former classmates who were part of the 'mean girl' group led by Raynell Rollins whose personality hasn't changed a bit since then. As classmates trickle into town, Halia realizes some have done well in life bu [...]

Halia agrees to cater her high school reunion when their other venue falls through. It seems like though the years have gone by, some things never change: the mean girls of the high school are now mean adults. The ring leader of the group has made so many enemies along the way, it’s hard to narrow down the field when she turns up dead. Halia decides to play sleuth with the help of her ditzy cousin. At least this time, she knows to call the police when she finds a dead body instead of moving it [...]

Such a fun book with plenty of laugh out loud moments. Once again, Halia and Wavonne find themselves in the middle of a murder investigation when a former classmate dies after reuniting with Halia to discuss plans for their high school reunion. Looking forward to the next installment of this series and hopefully the author will continue it for a long time.

Such a fun book! Laugh out loud funny! I enjoyed this one a whole lot more than the first one. I will definitely continue this series. Halia & Wavonne are easily becoming two of my favorite characters.

This is the second in a series of books featuring restaurant owner and unofficial sleuth Mahalia Watkins and her "out there" cousin Wavonne. It's high school reunion time and Halia is catering her own reunion where she reconnects with classmates who were at the top of the social pyramid in high school. One of the women ends up dead, and although the police are inclined to think it was an accident, Halia thinks differently. Wavonne provides a great deal of humor (think Stephanie Plum's sidekick L [...]

My first time reading A.L. Herbert and he/she is a wonderful writer.Wavonne, the cousin, is a hoot! The story is seamless and goes right along and before you know it, it's done and the murderer is caught!!A good read

I received this book from . Thank you.I enjoyed this book. A fun read. Likable characters except for Raynell but of course you really weren't supposed to like her. Also loved the recipes she included. I would read more by this author.

The story line was good but the characters were painted with a little too broad a brush. They didn't seem realistic. The recipes sounded yummy but all were heart attacks waiting to happen.

I thought I could stick it out after the first one - the recipes sound interesting (if completely unhealthy) but the mysteryFirst, I don't like the characters. They seem to be caricatures of who the author thinks they should be. The main character is okay although a bit aloof (how on earth does she say she works all the time and then spends SO MUCH TIME FROM WORK!) Wavonne is absolutely awful. I expect that characters in a cozy mystery to be at least decent people - they are working on a mystery [...]

I liked the writing style, and the characters were pretty funny. The ending happened a little too quick, though. It seemed like the answer just came to Halia all at once. I also thought the little blurb about needing to eat food a certain way was a littleextreme. I know she is sensitive about how the recipe's origins, and how it's meant to be enjoyedbut everyone has different taste buds. Who are you to judge what foods people mix with different sauces and different flavor combinations? (Although [...]

Great second book in the series. Mahalia agrees to cater her high school reunion after their first venue fell through. But the next morning, the former classmate who organized the reunion is found dead. Halia and her cousin Wavonne are on the case. Amusing, fun read!

I've been waiting to read this book after finishing the first one in the series. It was just as good. I can't wait for the next one.

Despite it is considered a mystery, in my opinion it is a funny book! A crime happens after a party for ex-high school classmates. There is a list of suspects and Halia, a restaurant owner, and her cousin, Wavonne, do their best to try to find out who the murderer was. In the course of story recipes of dishes served at the restaurant are presented (which in my opinion gives a special charm to the book). Halia and her cousin Wavonne are adorable main characters. I recommend it!

I thought this book was really cute. It was funny and I loved the main character’s sidekick/cousin. I would have liked to known more about the character. She was smart and very perceptive to details. I love a murder mystery but the cherry was the funny moments.

Murder and Macaroni and Cheese was enjoyable but not nearly as much fun as the first book in the series. I still got a few laughs though from the banter between Wavonne and Halia. The book also included some great recipes that I want to try. Overall a good read with an intriguing mystery.

Loved loved the book However I thought the ending was too much of a quick wrap up Plus I could see it coming. But that being said I would recommend it as a great rainy day read!!!!
