Back to the Scottish Highlands, in this story, we are reunited with Rhiannon MacDowall, still challenged by the agoraphobia that keeps her imprisoned in her parents' castle. She's created a sort of life for herself as a landscape painter, but is this really how she wants to live?Enter Colin Walker, the man grown up now and her best friend when they were 8 years old. Colin has his own demons, not least of which is his bad feelings about his father, who abandoned him. Colin's now a pro golfer, but [...]

Rhiannon MacDowell and Colin Walker were childhood friends who visited during summers at Rhiannon's home in Scotland. When they were eight, Colin's parents divorced and the two never saw each other again. Now, about 20 years later, Colin receives word that his father has died and he needs to go back to Scotland for the funeral and to get his inheritance. He doesn't want to go, but as a pro golfer on the fringes, he needs the money to support his team. When he goes back he finds Rhiannon is now a [...]

Another sweet romance by my fellow NECRWA chapter mate, Cathryn Parry. The third book in a family trilogy, this one reunites Scotswoman Rhiannon with her childhood friend, American Colin. Both suffered trauma in their early lives—a messy parental split and estrangement from half of his family for Colin, a kidnapping for Rhiannon—but they have responded to those traumas in very different ways. Colin, a pro golfer, "take[s] nothing seriously and keep[s] everything light," a way of life which h [...]

A nice enough read, with generally likable characters, but it didn't send me over the moon, to be honest. Part of the problem is purely personal, though - a sad little rich girl and a golf pro aren't my usual cup of tea, and I should likely have considered this before reading. I had to skim (or skip) a lot of golf stuff, which did make this a rather quick read, and I have trouble connecting to the butler-and-manor-level rich. (view spoiler)[I also find the main character's trauma to be less dram [...]

I'd read the first in this series when it came out, The Sweetest Hours, and really loved the story. But more than that I was intrigued by the hero's reclusive sister, Rhiannon. I wanted to know more about her and find out what had happened to make her the way she was. More than that, I wanted her to get out of her fancy prison and find someone she could love. Parry finally fulfilled my wishes. This story was another example of Parry's fine writing style. Her characters are well developed and she [...]
