“Darkness Descends (The Silver Legacy #1)” is a fun audiobook, narrated wonderfully by Angel Clark.College girl Denny’s girlfriend is a ghost, her father is dead, her mother is comatose, her brother is in prison, her older sister is a nun, and her younger sister is unknowingly dating an evil demon. Oh, and a local lesbian hottie turns out to be a witch…d she really has her eyes on Denny! The story involves Denny learning of her family history, and her role in the newly discovered supernat [...]

"A week ago, she was just another college kid with a dysfunctional family and a ghost for a lover. Now, she was being asked to do something she wasn't at all sure she had the courage or the desire to do."This is the second book I've read by this author, and though I really liked The Pirate's Booty, this one not so much. So I'm kind of disappointed. I'm even struggling with the rating here, I think I'll end up with a 3, but it's more of a 2.5 for me.In Darkness Descends we have Golden 'Denny' Sil [...]

If not for the lesbian protagonist, I would have put this book down very early on. The writing was not terrible, but the worldbuilding and character development were weak, and all of the continuity errors were driving me up a wall. First of all, the romance. Or, well, lack of romance. Denny's girlfriend Rush is a ghost, and Rush was in love with Denny for 10 years before she confessed her love. Presumably they've been together ever since, but Denny never even says what her own reaction was. Had [...]

The concept is really intriguing, so I wanted to like this book more than I did. The writing was very repetitive. Instead of the demon hunting action I was hoping for, there was a ton of “encouraging” conversation. I felt like I read the same conversation between the main character and multiple side characters over and over. I liked Denny and her sisters, and I liked the concept of the legacy, so I’ll probably at least try the next book.

Darkness Descends was so much fun! Denny was just a normal college student until she learns that her family is part of a long line of demon hunters. It turns out that her parents' car accident was no accident, but a demon attack, and it's demons who framed her older brother for murder. Demons are also the reason her older sister joined a convent. Now, Denny is the current hunter in her family, and it's up to her to protect her friends, ghost lover, and family from evil.I generally really like de [...]

Loved this book. I don't give five stars easily, but this time I couldn't help myself. Great story with a protagonist who kicks demon butt. Not the horned heads and forked tails of our typical nightmares, but the real demons we see on the news all too often. The class room shooters, the pressure cooker bombers, and of course the big names in evil, Hitler, Manson etc. The kind of evil they hold is the evil that only a true demon can possess and they walk in disguise amongst us. Denny Silver, one [...]

Darkness Descends Golden (Denny) Silver is just a normal college student. If your definition of normal involves siblings named Sterling, Quick, and Pure, living in one of the most haunted cities in America, having a ghost for a lover, and learning your family is a long line of demon hunters. Oh yeah, she's the next hunter in the legacy, and has a powerful demon living inside her. After being called by her brother Quick, Denny learns that the accident that killed their father and left their moth [...]

4.5 starsI received a copy of this book from Inked Rainbow Reads in return for an honest review. This book ensnared me from the beginning. I just found so many of the plot points in it intriguing and innovative. Things don't always go the way Denny, Golden that is, wants them to go. But let's face it, if they did, we wouldn't have a story to read. This first book in the series explains how Denny becomes a Demon Hunter, and a little bit about what that entails. I think it's pretty awesome that her [...]

Book #1 The Silver LegacyI was really looking forward to reading this book. So much so that I pushed some other books that I downloaded aside to read this one. Alas, I was disappointed in many ways. This story had so much potential. I was hoping it would be like Meg Cabot's Mediator series. Only with lesbians. Because I realized quickly that this wasn't going to be like that, I had to gut through the story (speed-reading at times,) to finish it. It would have been so much better if it lived up t [...]

Alex Westmore's "Darkness Descends" is a gem of a novel. In book one of the Silver Legacy series, Denny (Golden) Silver is just your average 20 something collage student trying to make good grades and support her little sister after her parents were involved in a car crash that killed her father and left her mother in a vegetative state. But her life is about to take a massive turn that will change everything she knows to be true about the world. Although she has a ghost for a girlfriend, which [...]

Denny is a college student looking after her younger sister after their parents were in a car crash, killing her father and leaving her mother catatonic. Her brother is in jail for a horrific murder and her other sister in a convent. Not your usual run of the mill family. There is more to come though. Denny is in a sexual relationship with a ghost, Rush, who has been 'living' in their haunted house for years. When Denny's brother Quick wants her to use a medium to talk to their catatonic mother [...]

It takes a lot of terrible to make me drop a book with a lesbian protag. Hell, that's nearly all I read nowadays. But as someone who actually dabbles in witchy stuff (yes, witchy! It's not a bad word!), the supernatural elements of this book quickly became unbearable. My biggest issue is that there are so many words related to pagan beliefs that are used incorrectly. I'd forgive it if this was all obscure information, but everything is so easy to Google.First: witch and Wiccan are not at all syno [...]

Loved It! Great Read! Demon Hunter of a different caliber! Goldy "Denny" Silver is a Demon Hunter. She is young, strong, and a fighter and her girlfriend is a "ghost". Yes you heard me right, a "ghost". That is just the tip of the iceberg. Goldy (Denny) is one of four siblings, Sterling, Pure, Quick, and Denny (Goldy) Silver (their parents had a sense of humor). Sterling runs off to join a convent and Quick is in prison for a murder he may or may not have committed. Goldy soon finds out that her [...]

A lil slow to start but once it got going it was an enjoyable read. This is a paranormal book about a Demon Hunter that is coming into her own. This is a F/F romance. I've read a lot of M/M which I love but this was my first F/F and I enjoyed it. There are demons (not your Hollywood type demons), witches, demon hunters, ghosts, etc. The only thing missing are vampires and shape shifters. This made me imagine the paranormal in a different way. It was a nice change from the norm. The story line was [...]

once I started reading this book, I had a really hard time putting it down. Some books are slow to catch my intrest, not so with Darkness. The storyline through the whole book flowed very smoothly. I don't want to ruin it for anybody, but there were several occasions where I had to mark the pages. Because there were some very good lines that really made a lot of sense, when you think about it in reference to society today. I will be going back to these parts of the book. Unfortunately I can't really get into it because the massive amount of info dumps IMHO really bogs it down. Lots of telling instead of showing. I get that it's the exposition for a series, so the stage has to be set but it was all a bit much. I really think it could have benefited from some judicious content editing. This book was absolutely amazing!! It's the tale of Golden Silver's rise from everyday young adult to kick-ass demon hunter. This was my first book by Alex Westmoreland and I am beyond impressed. When I read the blurb, I thought the book sounded interesting, but it far exceeded my expectations. The story was fresh and exciting. The characters were well-written. And, there was a certain energy that I felt, that I've missed lately. I willwill definitely read the rest of the Silver Legacy.

Copy received from NetGalley in exchange for honest reviewSo many plot holes! Sure they are only minor bits and pieces but the amount just made it annoying. Reading along and someone mentions something/ does something that makes you think "huh? when did that happen?". Or small jumps in the flow of events, it was almost as if random sentences were accidentally deleted throughout the book.I liked the idea of the mythology but the 'missing bits' made it a little confusing as a whole.

And then all the sudden strange people start to show up and some even bug her in some way. What is going on? Why is she just now finding out about the family legacy of Silver. Why all the secrets and why is she just finding out now!

Denny rocksDenny Silver just wants to go to school and have a normal life. That is if having a ghost for a girlfriend is normal. I liked this book about a young woman who discovers she's carrying a terrible legacy, passed on her family fro generations, that allows her to fight and kill demons. Every now and then, we are presented with musings of the demons and their take on our world: our complete weakness and arrogance and cruelty, all the things that allow evil to thrive.
