My Thoughts:Aaliyah is a faithful and dutiful wife to Tyrus. It is Passover and she is preparing food for the Passover meal. When she cuts herself with a knife, her husband noticed a purple spot on her arm and wanted to know where it came from. They write it off as Aaliyah being clumsy. The next morning Aaliyah wakes with a start as she has slept late, she goes to wash up before preparing breakfast and she notices more purple splotches, and she tries her best to hide them from Tyrus. Tyrus notic [...]

"The Healer's Touch" by Amber Schamel gets 5 stars. I probably would not have brought this because it is a short novella and I am a fan of longer books and I like to read the whole story at once but I was given a copy by Helping Hands Press for my honest review. I am glad I was and cannot wait till the rest of the volumes are available. "The Healer's Touch" is the first volume in the " Days Of Messiah" series. I couldn't put this book down once I stared reading it. I loved it. The only thing I d [...]

A Powerful Read! The Healer’s Touch - Volume One will leave you wanting more. As I read this story I was so engrossed in the life of Aaliyah. I was walking with her through her disappointment in what life had dealt her. I wondered too what she had done to deserve this horrible disease that wracked her body. How would it feel to be ordered away from her home, from her son, by her husband? Would she ever see her son again? Bitterness toward her husband took over her whole being. Her chances of ev [...]

As a home school mom, I am always anxious to see what is coming out of the community of home school. I took The Healer's Touch along to read on our trip to New York over July 4th weekend. As it turns out, I didn't have much down time to bury myself in the land of Israel. But my girls all passed it around and gave it rave reviews. One afternoon I stretched out by the pool and instantly lost myself in the pages of The Healer's Touch. In only a few pages I was completely engrossed in the world of Aa [...]

Age Appropriate For: All AgesBest for Ages: All AgesEver since I read Schamel’s wonderful story The Swaddling Clothes, I have wanted to read another of her books. I bought The Healer’s touch not long after, but it took me a few months to get around to reading it. When I did, I wished I had read it sooner. The Healer’s Touch wasn’t long, just a good novella size. I read it in only a couple of hours, but they were two hours very well spent. In fact, my only complaint about this book is that [...]

While only about 100 pages, this novel reaches the core of human sorrow, bitterness and redemption. It is early in the turn of a new millennium. In the small town of Capernaum, Aaliyah is diagnosed with leprosy. She is left with no choice but to leave behind both husband and young son while she learns a new way of life in a leper colony. I expected another cheesy teen-writer novelI was extremely, and pleasantly surprised! The theme and writing style were both mature and refined. The emotion of t [...]

Imagine the husband & son you love with all your heart be ripped away from you when you hear the diagnosis you fear the most - you have leprosy. There's no way of knowing how you contracted it but your husband thinks right away that God is punishing you because you an indiscretion he assumes you had (which you didn't). Now you are thrown out like the trash & have to live in the leper colony because it's so contagious & never seeing your family again. Bitterness takes hold in your hea [...]

I really liked this book, I cannot wait till the next volume is out. As soon as I read the first page, I could not put it down. There were parts in the book that made me teary eyed, and there have not been many books lately that have done that. Great job Amber!!!!!!

I'm finding more and more that the indie-writers' realm opens up a whole new world of stories. Fresh, unusual, beautiful just, different than the ordinary Christian novels market.Days of Messiah- The Healer's Touch, is a poignant story from Amber Schamel. It mixes heartbreak, pain, and destruction, with grace, joy, and redemption. Gruesome scenes made me shudder the awfulness was so real. Tender scenes made my heart clench; beauty, hope, and awe it almost made me cry. This book really touched my [...]

I loved this sentence in The Healer's Touch, it warmed my heart. "A warm smile passed between them as they both sat quietly. The sounds of the night seemed comforting. The chirping crickets, the hoots of Tawny Owls, and the crackling of the fire made a symphony just for them."Written with the artistic grace that is her signature style. She writes with a calm, steady hand that plucks the strings of her tale with lyrical precision that leaves the reader deeply entrenched in her words long after th [...]

I enjoyed reading this book. It brings first-century Palestine to life and weaves its fictional characters believably into the New Testament narrative. However, I found the portrayal of the heroine's internal conflict a bit too simplistic, and the book definitely needs and deserves better copy editing. Still I felt it deserved at least three stars because it insightfully links the physical and spiritual aspects of Jesus' healing touch and would, I think, be of interest to many Christian readers. Have you ever had a false label attached to you? Did anyone ever shun or cast judgement upon you for a sin or crime you never committed? Have you ever questioned God on why something happened? What did you do to deserve such punishment and turmoil? In Amber Schamel's story, The Healer's Touch, we are brought into Aaliyah's world and how it was turned upside down within moments. The heartache of becoming an outcast because of a disease and the burden of carrying a false label of a sin you did not [...]

Loved this series! What a talented author! I was intrigued from the first page and couldn't wait to read the others. The only complaint I have is that they were novellas. I would have rather read them as one novel. The writer was very knowledgeable of historical Israel and for me that's critical. I hope to read many more by this author and other writers of biblical history. Great job!!!

Wow! Amber Schamel knows how to draw her readers into her Biblical story, The Healer's Touch. Aaliyah is a young wife and mother who contracted leprosy and was banished from her home by her husband, Tyrus. Tyrus was sure Aaliyah had hidden sin that resulted in her disease. Aaliyah went to the leper's colony outside of Capernaum and met Meira, an older woman with leprosy. Aaliyah meets Meira, an older lady with leprosy, who minister to others within the colony and asked Aaliyah to join her. Aaliy [...]

Amazing Biblical fiction! This story was very touching. Struck with leprosy Aaliyah is banished to the leper colony by her unloving husband, leaving behind her young son. There was much compassion shown in this book from the older woman who takes Aaliyah under her wing in the colony, the Rabbi, bringing food and supplies and Aaliyah's friend Hannah who visits (from a safe distance) and shares the news of Jesus the Healer with her. This short book is crammed full of characters with good stories b [...]

I received this book for free via First Reads.I might as well declare I am not a Christian before I start to review this book. I have read three different versions of the Bible (along with the Torah, the Qu'ran and the Hadiths) but I keep an open mind when I read stories based on religious times or books.I enjoyed this book not because it was about religion or a woman who met Jesus but because it is well written. You can actually feel sympathy for the main character and her plight. The book tou [...]

I had never heard of the term "novella" until I read reviews on this series. Volume one of Days of Messiah is very well written and a quick read. I hardly turned a page before committing to read the entire series, but having never cared for serials, I am finding the novella approach to story telling to be a little irritating. I won't let that stop me from enjoying the remainder of this series however because this author has made my 'A' list. I really enjoy stories that zoom out and broaden the c [...]

What a great book. Wonderfully written. The author has certainly done her research well and has a wonderful style of writing that hooks you and puts you right there in the middle of the story. I've held off reading this book because I like to read a whole series at one time, but was bored and read the first chapter. I couldn't put it down! I do have two complaints: (1) it was too short and (2) book two isn't being released soon enough! Thank you Amber, for sharing your obvious gift of writing hi [...]

Amber made this Bible story become alive, and I am sure I will think of it every time I read about the lepers in the Bible times. The historical aspects are wonderful. My heart was touched when she decides to go to meet The Healer. This is a story that will warm your heart and make you thankful for God's love and mercy.

A very interesting short novel based during the time of Jesus Christ. I loved the story about a wife who was kicked out of town with leprosy to live in a leper colony. After reading this first book in a series, I had to read the second.
