Ah. A Penny Jordan story. Question: Is there a neurotic heroine? Answer: Does the day in 'y'? But this is a different sort of neurotic heroine - one who has faced her demons with the help of counseling and is actually trying very hard to overcome the crippling jealousy and insecurity that not only affected her growing up, but her parents and the teenager they fostered (the hero). The action opens with the artist heroine's beloved father in the hospital awaiting heart surgery. His chances would i [...]

Re Payment in Love - Penny Jordan brings us an interesting take on jealousy and rivalry with this one. The h is a 23 yr old who lives at home and has a past history of attempted suicide. The H was the foster child the h's parents moved in when she was 13 and it was hate before first sight for the h because she was told by some undisclosed someone that her parents always wanted the son that they lost at birth. In other words the h believes that she just isn't good enough for her parents. Her paren [...]

I really like it when a flawed character gains so much self-awareness that by the time the novel ends they've defintely earned their HEA. Heather matured significantly during the course of the story, learning to overcome her fears and to appreciate Kyle for his awesomeness. As a child, she had resented him but it turns out this dislike wasn't personal. Kyle was just the unfortunate target of her hurt feelings over feeling unloved and unwanted by her parents. It was just all in her messed-up head [...]

Decent old Penny Jordan (if you like old Penny Jordans, which I do), obviously since it's older it has some silly plot points -- treats a suicide attempt as if it was a natural consequence of too much "sensitivity," acts like it's fine for a foster brother and sister who grew up for quite some time together to fall in love, an attempted rape (not by the hero) isn't that big of a deal, etc. But lots of good emotion and angst. A little slow to get going on the romantic part. I also thought it coul [...]

i love a besotted hero when i see one! and this one was absolutely besotted! especially what i love is dat they had been part of each others life since childhood. both were jealous and resentful of the other. while kyle knew he had fallen for heather, she did not know. he was only her surrogate brother whom she hated. she did not have those kind of feelings in the past. she was a childish and spiteful bitch and cud not understand love. i'm glad she had therapy, so i cud believe this amazing chan [...]

Sweet love story with a kind caring hero and a young heroine who matures and changes and is finally deserving of hero's love.

Decent read that has characters with depth. Heather has a huge insecurity complex stemming from when she was a kid with a foster brother that she thought would replace her in her parents' affection. This was such a huge focal point in the book that many interactions were sacrificed to focus on Heather's "growing up." It was well done, considering the many years of hatred and misunderstanding that they had to eventually have one moment in which this was all laid to rest.
