I was initially drawn to this book by the beautiful cover. I’m so glad that I was because I discovered not only a good book, but a wonderful author. At first, I thought the book would be a somewhat predictable, but after a couple of chapters I realized that would not be the case! The story progressed nicely and the characters were well developed. One of my favorite characters is Mammi. She was full of surprises and quite different from other Amish grandmother’s in books that I’ve read. I lo [...]

Although I live in Central Pennsylvania, I do not usually read Amish stories. I am extremely happy that I made an exception for this book. The characters are well developed and the research is very good. I enjoyed the plot and the setting as well.

"Change of Heart" by Rachel J. Good is the first book in the (Sisters & Friends series) and if the other two books in the series is as intense as this one the reader will be remembering these sisters and friends long after they finished reading the series. This book is a novel full of emotion and twists that I didn't see coming. This book made the tears fall while reading a couple of scenes. Even though this book is about the Amish, I believe that readers of clean love stories will enjoy it. [...]

First of all, I have to comment on how pretty the cover of this book is. The picture, colors, and font all combine to beckon a reader to pick up this book. I was so glad the inside of this book held up to the expectations I had based on the cover. Although this book at first seems a bit on the predictable side it is soon discovered there are going to be many twists and turns. Readers should be prepared for a rollercoaster ride of emotions while reading this well-written story. All of the characte [...]

Change of Heart is filled with an uplifting PG romance, some difficult life passages and relatable angst. This novel will both charm you and move you. The author deftly sets up the story of 18 year-old Lydia Esh, who disapproves of her younger sister Emma’s wild ways. At sixteen, Emma is enjoying a Rumschpringe that unnerves her older and more traditional older sister, who had eschewed the opportunity to dress and act like the Englischers when she was sixteen. In order to monitor Emma, who reg [...]

As the story opens we see Lydia sneaking around and keeping tabs on her sister Emma, but is she why has she taken the responsibility to keep eyes on her sister? What happens as an outcome of these spying or chaperoning ends up being the makings of this book?Lydia has yet to join the church, and she has been keeping Jakob at arms length, and it is supposed by all that they will soon marry. Life cannot always run smooth, and by chance the brother of Emma’s boyfriend keeps running into Lydia, and [...]

When I received my ARC from Rachel Good I was excited to see where this Author would take me. Lydia is a wonderful Amish school teacher, she is "courting" Jakob the Bishop's son. As the characters develop you learn that there courtship is assumed not official. Jakob is pretty quite and shy. Our heroine Lydia has several younger siblings, Emma is in her Rumschpringe and the base storyline. Trying to protect her sister she meets Caleb. He is English and she should not feel what her heart is feelin [...]

This was my first read from this author, and definitely will not be my last. Though it had a predictable outcome, I loved all the twists and turns Ms Good put into the plot. The characters are fully rounded and each one adds their own touch to the story. I ran the gamut of emotions while reading this story. It has plenty of love, and angst. Heartache and the normal family ties of the Amish.Lydia, the main character has fallen in love with an Englischer, will she leave her family, her home, her f [...]

It is no secret that I love the Amish fiction genre, thus when this book was offered for review purposes, I immediately "jumped on the band wagon". Rachel Good is an author with whom I was a bit familiar, but wasn't quite sure what I would discover about her writing. I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed. This book is typical for this genre. It was well written and maintained my attention throughout. The message that shines through all the challenges and trials that the characters expe [...]

Change of Heart is the first book in the Sisters and Friends series. The book focuses on the themes of love, rebellion, and forgiveness. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to the sequels.Lydia Esh is the oldest sister of three girls and feels it is her duty to guide them in their life choices. Emma, the middle daughter, has decided to blaze a path of her own rebelling against her Amish roots and setting up housekeeping with her Englischer boyfriend Kyle. This is the first Rachel Good book I have read and it won't be my last. I was hooked from chapter one. This book has everything love, heartache, danger, and family. What more can you ask for?I was so invested in Lydia's story that I found myself thinking about her troubles when I wasn't reading the book. Would she follow her heart or what was right by her faith? Would her and Emma resolve their issues? I hesitate to give specific details of the story as I want you as the reader to find yourself [...]

Eureka! I've just discovered a new-to-me favourite author and she writes Amish stories! Woot! I was completely captivated by the Esh sisters and thrilled to discover this is Book One in the Sisters & Friends series. And we don't have to wait long to get a hold of Book Two -- it comes out this winter. Double woot! Good has created an enthralling family tale rife with angst, forbidden love and abiding faith. I was on tenterhooks the whole read. The Esh family dynamics had my tummy in knots for [...]

A nice Amish fiction that focuses on temptations that young adults go through, specifically relationships with English & temptations of romance. There were a few interesting side story lines in this book as well which tied in nicely and held attention of the readers.

Good readThis was my first book by Rachel J Good. Change of Heart is the first book in the Sisters and Friends. At first I thought this would be a fairly predictable Amish story. I was delightfully wrong. This was a well developed story with strong characters. Rachel J. Good is a new-to-me author. In Change of Heart, the first in the Sisters and Friends series, she deals with the subject of Amish rumschpringe and a realistic view of what happens when your heart and your faith are not parallel. Will Lydia remain true to her Amish upbringing and never experience being married to the man she loves? Each is stand alone and focuses on the lives of the Esh sisters.

I found Change of Heart to be a relaxing and refreshing read. It was interesting to learn about the Amish culture and I was curious to find out whether 18 year-old Lydia would stay true to her faith despite her attraction to the very charming Caleb, an Englischer; especially since she is already expected to marry Jakob. Added bonuses I enjoyed were the Amish glossary and recipes (including whoopee pies!) at the back of the book. Recommended for fans of clean romance books!

I can't say enough nice things about this lovely book. It has great character development and each one will touch your heart. Lydia is keeping her eye on her younger sister Emma. Emma is kinda stubborn and has a yearning to experience things that could perhaps get her into trouble. I can relate to Emma quite well. I was a rebel growing up around a very strict upbringing. Change of Heart by Rachel J. Good had me captured from the start. With three older sisters growing up I could understand Emma wanting to get away from someone she thought was trying to control her. As a mother I could also understand Lydia and the need to protect part of her family. Such a dilemma that was a delight to read. The atmosphere was described so well it had me feeling like I was their world. This was a sweet story that touched upon the importance of the Amish beliefs. There was romance between two people that were not supposed to be together. There were sparks flying between them, but they were very respectable and Lydia fought those feelings quite well. She wanted to do the right thing by staying true to her intended. I was rooting for her and Caleb, of course! I enjoyed the character Mammi. She had a no-nonsense attitude. Although her son was the man of the house, she had a strong [...]

There are lessons to be learned in this tale of Amish life which are relevant for everyone. 18 year old Lydia Esh takes it upon herself to chaperone her 16 year old sister Emma during the latter's Rumschpringe - the time when Amish youth can act as Englischers if they choose, before committing to the Amish church. The trouble is, Emma has rebelled and has taken up with a most unsuitable Englisch boy, Kyle. Lydia and her family are devastated. When Lydia meets Kyle's elder brother, Caleb, sparks [...]
