| LOCAL VEG GROWERS GET A FAIR DEAL |
Cornwall Taste of the West is proud to be associated with a new initiative to unite local growers to ensure they get a fair return for their quality produce and to service customers far and wide with the highest quality produce delivered on time, every time.
Bristol Fruit Sales Direct (Cornwall) has recently launched another arm to its business operations with a new premium brand named Growfair - Pride of Cornwall. Funding from Cornwall Taste of the West's Food and Drink Marketing Grant Scheme helped the brand design development and University of Plymouth's Knowledge Transfer Partnership provided resources and expertise.
The ethos behind the Growfair - Pride of Cornwall brand is that local vegetable, fruit and salad growers will be paid a consistent and fair price, paid promptly to enable forward financial planning. Said Cornwall Regional Manager Martin Baldry, "We welcome the opportunity to build stronger relationships with our growers. Growfair is a great concept and we firmly believe that locally grown fresh produce should be supported at all times."
The customer base includes foodservice, secondary wholesalers and retail markets throughout the South West. Prestigious names such as the Brend Hotel Group and Tresanton Hotel are already on board. At the launch of the brand at Kingsley Village near Fraddon on 31st March, Dez Turland, Executive Chef for the Brend Hotel Group prepared some of the produce for invited guests.
Bristol Fruit Sales was founded in 1957 and now has depots throughout the South West. It already has the necessary infrastructure in place to get the products into provincial markets such as Bristol, London, Birmingham, Southampton and Cardiff as well as Devon and Cornwall.
Brand Development Manager Mark Oughtred (pictured above with Chef Dez Turland) explained, "The brand will support an expanding portfolio of products beginning with the early Cornish new potatoes and asparagus. Our Growfair farmers are immensely passionate about what they do and we hope that more and more growers will come on board."

CRELLOW CATERS FOR NEW MARKET
After years of success in the retail sector, Crellow chutneys are now available in catering re-sealable plastic pails of 1.2kg and 2.75kg.
While jar stocks last there will be no increase in price. Choices include four apple based chutneys such as the warm rather than hot Ginger Chutney and Hot Goddess, chilli flavours and an excellent accompaniment to main foods. Then there's Beetroot Relish, Red Pepper relish, Father's Favourite and Orchard Chutney, the last two also available in the larger sizes.
All the catering lines have matching retail jars so if you serve one in your restaurant and a customer wants to buy it, there is a jar available. Samples and further menu suggestions are available.
Crellow make everything by hand in their home in mid Cornwall. using 9kg pans and cooking to traditional methods. Their products are free from artificial additives, often using Cornish cider vinegar and English beet sugar as the only preservatives. They use as many locally grown ingredients as possible.
