The Affordable Farm Shop that supports local Cornish Producers
NOW you can enjoy a really good cup of coffee and a piece of cake at the same time as planning your shopping at an award winning Farm Shop and Coffee Bar.

Purely Cornish Farm Shop at St Martin-by-Looe is open seven days a week from 10am - 6pm. Last year, shortly after it opened, it was awarded Silver in Cornwall Taste of the West Awards.

The Farm Shop now boasts the Chillout Bar, a relaxing place to read the papers and enjoy a selection of light meals, cakes and cream teas accompanied by coffee ground on demand and made by trained baristas.  If you feel an urge to check your emails while you're there you can do that also.

Grandad (pictured) has been busy in the poly-tunnels planting a great range of vegetables, and an improved play area and outside seating mean that the whole family can be kept amused.

To complement the Farm Shop there is the Delicatessen in Buller Street, in Looe, itself a winner of a Bronze Taste of the West award for Best  Retail Outlet only five months after it opened a couple of years ago.

In addition, if you're stuck for gift ideas or not lucky enough to live in Cornwall, Purely Cornish offer a 'pick your own' hamper service to provide a wonderful hamper bursting with the best of local produce.

As a family business, Andy and Ally take great pride in their products and are confident you will be impressed with their customer service.  Visit www.purelycornish.co.uk for more information.

DOWN TO A TEA

A brand new business in Mount Hawke, Truro is using wind, solar and biodiesel power to pack a range of carbon friendly delicious teas made from nature's finest organic herbs.

Larsens Organic Infusions was inspired by a dream of health, happiness and sustainable way of living.  The organic herbs are grown without using chemicals and are GM free, cultivated in a way that keeps the soil healthy and cares for the planet.

The teas are packed in Cornwall using the power of the wind and the sun.  Every aspect of the product is biodegradable - even the internal bio-plastic wrapper. Every piece of the packaging comes from a sustainable  source: the ink has been specially chosen for its non toxic properties.  All these aspects add up to leave a minimal footprint meaning you can enjoy a great cup of tea and soak up the therapeutic properties of the herbs, safe in the knowledge that every step of the infusions' journey has been carefully managed from the field to the shelf.

TITBITS
FOOD SERVICE MEMBERS

Each month on this site we will feature an outstanding restaurant or hotel which prides itself on its use of fresh local produce.  As members of Taste of the West these establishments are crucial to the development of the food supply chain throughout the county.

This month our featured business is Barclay House, East Looe. Situated high on the hill with stunning views of the East Looe river valley you'll find this completely refurbished hotel - its restaurant recommended in the Daily Express July 2007 by Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan as "Food for which any Metropolitan Restaurant would rightly expect to receive a Michelin Star".

Voted "Best Restaurant in Cornwall" in 2003, 2004 and 2005 in Taste of the West Gold awards, resident proprietors Graham and Gill Brooks invite you to savour dinner or lunch followed by a stay in their contemporary rooms or luxury cottages.  Dinner is served from 7pm to 9pm Monday to Saturday and on Sunday there is informal terrace dining from 12.30pm onwards.  A Special Sunset menu is available on Mondays priced at just £19.50 for three courses.

The restaurant features the Modern Coastal cuisine of Head Chef Benjamin Palmer and a menu which changes daily reflects what's best in season - Looe Day boat fish, local Cornish meats, cheeses and own garden produce.  The wine list has been personally compiled and spans the globe offering the best of today's vineyards and wineries.  Graham and Gill are particularly pleased to feature local Camel Valley Wines, grown and produced a few miles away near Bodmin.

Barclay House offers beautiful sun terraces, outdoor heated pool, fully fitted air conditioned gymnasium and sauna.  It is just 10 minutes walk from the picturesque fishing village of Looe with its harbour, shops and sandy beach.  It is elegant yet relaxed, and at night candles flicker across original local artwork creating a cosy atmosphere.  In summer with doors open wide one can enjoy a drink on the terrace with magnificent river views.

To book your room or cottage, or to reserve a table for dinner or lunch, call 01503 262929.  www.barclayhouse.co.uk
